Casting powder is fed onto the molten steel meniscus in a continuous casting mould, where it forms a slag film that lubricates the strand, controls heat transfer through the mould wall and absorbs non-metallic inclusions rising out of the melt. It is a production consumable, ordered against casting schedules rather than one-off, and supplied in 25 kg bags.
